Fire + Flannel, a Chive event

I love a good theme party – even one where you’re layering Carhart and flannel. Last night we went to Chive’s Fire + Flannel – the autumn rendition of their (now) seasonal Sustainable Sunday Supper. Don’t know Chive? They are some lovely, local ladies who are serious about sustainability, serious about kick ass food and serious about fun! Their events are zero waste – zero. Their food comes from local farms and folks, and the flair with which they throw an event is awe-inspiring.

This event was particularly feel good (helped along by the bountiful libations) because proceeds went to the Vermont Farm Disaster Relief Fund, and having just been in VT last weekend I can attest to the need for us to support these small farms in our region. I was shocked by the devastation I saw and this event was beyond good cause for celebration. Local food purveyors and sponsors meant our ticket money went to VT – cheers to them! Some of my local faves include: Berkshire Mountain DistillersFarnum Hill CidersCape Ann Brewing Co.Privateer Rum, Taza chocolate….the Maitlaind Mountain Farm pickles were ridiculous. You know I love me some good pickling

There was no shortage of food – cheese/pickles/apples, hot stews and baked beans, fire baked potatoes and goodies to top them, eggplant calzone, ginger whoopie pies, Taza choc s’mores, hot chocolate…..

Bourbon and root beer? Who knew? Well, I guess stellar root beer ON TAP will get me every time no matter what.

The fires were roaring, dogs and kids were quietly sharing the space and 3 bands provided the tunes….dancing is the best way to keep your toes warm anyway. Chive is doing amazing things – keep them in mind for events and parties and watch for the Winter Sustainable Sunday Supper, you won’t want to miss it.
